Shot Down: September 12, 1972
Released: March 29, 1973

I entered the Air Force in 1963 and attended pilot training at Vance AFB,
Oklahoma. Since that time I have been assigned to the F4 weapons system and
have flown the C's, D's and E's. I was shot down by a Mig 21 firing a heat
seeking missile on 12 September 1972, north and west of Haiphong, North
Vietnam. I was captured the following day by North Vietnamese regular army
troops. I spent two months in solitary confinement and then was moved to the
camp called the "Zoo" where I stayed most of my imprisonment except for a
short period in late December. In January we were moved to the "Hanoi Hilton."

What sustained me? Faith, would be the best answer. Faith in God, country and
its people. And certainly the knowledge that the President was doing every
thing possible for us. Also, my fellow prisoners were a great help to me.

My future plans are to continue my service in the Air Force. I have been
offered the opportunity to attend an intermediate service school and hope
later to get into the F-15 program.
