during the Vietnam War. Although he requested duty in Vietnam, he had
two brothers serving their in 1969 and was given a duty assignment in
Korea. On August 17, 1969, his helicopter was shot down and he, along

military. During his imprisonment he was tortured and beaten almost
every day. As with many other individuals held captive by the Koreans
in the post Korean War era, Mr. Loepke did not immediately receive his

1992. He left the service in 1971.
