ROBERT BRUCE HINCKLEY
Captain - United States Air Force
Shot Down: January 18, 1968
Released: March 14, 1973
TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE: I speak not only for myself but for my wife,
daughter and family when I say, "Thank you," to the American people and
President Nixon for bringing the POWs home with honor. Our nation is facing
a crisis, a period of inner dissension and distrust. I hope that we, as a
people believing in God and democracy, can overcome these present troubles
through a strong faith in the institutions we have created with our own
blood. God has blessed our America with so many good things. We must protect
them from the enemy within and without. It was and is a privilege to serve.
December 1996
Robert Hinckley retired from the United States Air Force as a Colonel. He
and his wife Marie reside in Florida.
