Dear Friends,
It's so very good to be home again and I want to thank you all for your
homecoming messages, prayers, and good wishes. It has been wonderful reading
your letters and feeling your concern for me. I can never thank you enough.

My wife began answering the "Bracelet letters" many months ago until so many
arrived that she couldn't keep up. She then wrote a form letter and sent it
to many of you. To those of you who've already heard from Anne, bear with me
while I repeat some facts about me for the benefit of those who haven't yet
heard.

I was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on October 2, 1929, graduated from
Western Kentucky University in 1952, and entered the Air Force immediately
after. Anne and I were married in June 1951 and have five children. Kathy is
20 and a student nurse in her junior year at the University of Virginia She
will graduate with a B.S. in nursing in June of 1974. John is 19 and a
sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University - majoring in pre-dental.
Patti is 15 and a sophomore at Hampton High School and Kerry and Kay are in
the 8th and 9th grades at Eaton Jr. High. Kay is a cheerleader and vice
president of the student council.

I was stationed at Ubon Air Base in Thailand flying F4D's when I was shot
down northwest of Hanoi. I was listed as "missing" and my family had no
information about me until March 1970 when Hanoi released a list with my
name as a POW.

I'm 6'3", weigh 170 lbs. now, but my normal weight is about 185 and I hope
to gain it back soon. I love water sports, especially water skiing, but my
favorite hobby is golf.

Again, I can't possibly tell you how much I appreciate your wonderful
letters. Please keep the bracelets. I see nothing but a bright future. With
America populated with wonderful people like you it could not possibly be
any other way. As we approach our great bicentennial year of 1976 I hope, I
pray, and I believe that our great nation is approaching a new pinnacle, a
sense of new and greater unity than ever before, and a greater understanding
of our people and other peoples of the world.
